Twin Cities Metro TRN - TRN of the Year

Please join us in congratulating Twin Cities Metro TRN for being recognized as a TRN of the Year!

About Twin Cities Metro TRN:
The Twin Cities Metro Trauma Recovery Network was established in May 2020 to serve the areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul, better known as the Twin Cities.

The TRN is led by coordinator Hector Matascastillo. Hector is a clinical social worker and has been treating clients and training clinicians in EMDR since the mid-2000s. Prior to becoming a social worker, Hector served in the Army as an Airborne Ranger, originally with 1st of the 75th Rangers, then went on to other units.

Hector inquired about becoming a TRN coordinator while attending a Trauma Recovery/HAP training in April 2019. He saw a need in his local community to provide services for "first responders as defined by the current crisis" which at the time was COVID and medical personnel. Hector was well known to law enforcement groups as a speaker, trainer and therapist through work with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, and local police departments. News of the TRN’s services spread quickly by word of mouth.

Then on May 25th, 2020 George Floyd's death sparked rioting and civil unrest which led to the face of the first responder changing to police officers, fire fighters, EMT's, as well as nurses and doctors. Hector shares the TRN was nearly overwhelmed with requests for treatment.

Currently, there are 16 active members in the Twin Cities Metro TRN. To reach the health care community the TRN is working with the Minneapolis Metro Emergency Services Board and its eleven county managers, to educate their corresponding public health directors and medical directors on their services.
